All Days » Day 11
Today we take courage and step out into the unknown with ferocity and grace. Think of the lion in the Wizard of Oz and speak to yourself, "Courage!" Stand in front of the mirror and mimic the same stance and side smile and chin lift, standing tall and say it again, "Courage!" We all need it. We all have it. Now let's practice it!
Here are your 3 gems :
1. "Admit it. You aren't like them. You're not even close. You may occasionally dress yourself up as one of them, watch the same mindless television shows as they do, maybe even eat the same ... food sometimes. But it seems that the more you try to fit it, the more you feel like an outsider, watching the "normal people" as they go about their automatic existences. For every time you say club passwords like "Have a nice day" and "Weather's awful today, eh?", you yearn inside to say forbidden things like "Tell me something that makes you cry" or "What do you think deja vu is for". Face it, you even want to talk to that girl in the elevator. But what if that girl in the elevator (and the balding man who walks past your cubicle at work) are thinking the same thing? Who knows what you might learn from taking a chance on conversation with a stranger. Everyone carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts. Do the unexpected. Find the others...." Timothy Leary

And then, do as he says today: Have an authentic, heartfelt, no barrier conversation with a stranger today. Do the unexpected. Have courage

2. When is the last time you had the courage to go dancing? So many of us have hangups about dancing. And even if we LOVE dancing, there are residual messages that are often imprinted in our minds about dancing. Release all inhibitions and find a place to go dancing. The late Gabrielle Roth created a dance experience technique called the 5 Rhythms or Waves. The 5 Rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. They all have a message and a meaning and we experience all of them in our lives in different ways that we work, relate and live.
Find your 5 Rhythms tribe wherever you may be. They are out there. Do a little research and go for it. You will experience dancing in a whole new way. If you are in New York City, Lucia Horan and Douglas Robert Wilson Drummond are teachers of the 5 Rhythms that will move you in ways that are indescribably profound. Learn more about Lucia Horan here. She is a courageous and inspiring woman, daughter of Gabrielle Roth, and beautiful dancer. Scroll down into the site and watch the video about Embodiment by Gabrielle Roth. She's so lovely. "Surrender to the dance and feel most vulnerable and most powerful." |
Watch this clip about the 5 Rhythms. Whoa.

And if you want to dive into the words behind the movement, read Sweat Your Prayers, Movement as a Spiritual Practice by Gabrielle Roth.
In this book, you will find insights into how we can live and dance and interact and BE with beauty and grace and authenticity and full on COURAGE! It's a gorgeous read. |
